Dollars for Euros

So, what exactly has the Iraq war done to our economy besides the glaringly obvious 9 trillion dollar deficit. Well, it is also destabilizing our currency, that’s what. If you think of the Iraq war as a business venture, which I am sure some people in the administration do, then you have to wonder who is profiting here because it most certainly isn’t America. The problem is, the more we spend the more in debt we go, and that doesn’t exactly make us look attractive to lenders. Would you loan someone money who owed 9 trillion? Better yet, would you loan someone who owed 9 trillion and was still in the process of pissing what money that had left down the toilet. Worser still, if that said person actually printed their own currency, would you really trust it’s value?

Well, if you can jive on that simple logic than you can see the systemic problem and also probably envision how it is probably going to get worse before it gets better.

How exactly is the war effecting our currency, well here is a short list. Get ready to trade those Benjamins for Euros and get ready to be beat down at the pump.

Smalticolor Dizzy Dizzy Ghost

There are some interesting, somewhat We Work For Them inspired posters at Smalitcolor for your viewing pleasure. So when did it become standard to have to print out your posters, put on some hipster girl jeans, and hold the poster up in front of you to be photographed. I just can’t help but notice that everyone under thirty who is ‘cool’ has to display their posters or large prints that way. How do cheesy trends like that get started?

Boris is Boodas

Nice work by Boris in the freshly updated Boodas. Is that German for Bad Ass? Probably not. Sorry I’m a dumb American.

The Octopus Project

If you don’t own Hello Avalanche by The Octopus Project, go out and buy it right now. It’s just a damn fine album. Their last album was fantastic as well but they have really cooked up something special on Hello Avalanche. There are no vocals on the album save for the very last song which is a bit of a departure for them but the depth of experimentation and the harmonies created by both synthetic and real instruments is just deliciously melodic. It’s an album that is great to work to but equally great to throw on in the background of a party. It just makes you feel good.

Jason Munn: The Small Stakes

There is some really classic work in the portfolio of Jason Munn who calls himself The Small Stakes. Absolutely gorgeous work as a matter of fact. Great use of negative space and beautifully understated minimal typography. He seems to understand and capture the personality and essence of each band while maintaining his minimal style. Be sure to spend some time looking through his work, every click of the next button is worth the time.

+41 Hubble Serie

There is some seriously sweet duds for grabs by the underground fashion brand +41 at their website. The problem is, they are asking for Euros not dollars and that doesn’t exactly make them cheap for those of us who have the misfortune of working in the Bush economy. If you feel like springing for and expensive t-shirt on the other hand, you could do a lot worse. Their new 42 Hubble Serie of tees are a particular standout, especially if you are a sucker for Hubble space telescope imagery like myself. If only I had thought to screen those images onto a t-shirt.
