Atmostheory symbolizes the work behind one prolific New Yorker, Christopher David Ryan. I have written of his work in the past but never included links to all the places you can find and learn about him. I am definitely a fan, if you can’t tell and what I really love is the sense of wonder in his work. It’s almost always very simple and nuanced but there in lies the complexity and beauty in it. Between the valley of that duality lies a green meadow of inspirational design, illustration and typography. His daily postings have been an inspiration to me for some time now. Each one feels like a shared discovery when he posts it that you want to file away in a special little drawer and take out to look at when you need a little jump start. I think he should take each one of them and make a collection of postcards just so I could do just that with each of them.

In his own words he describes himself as a, “Brooklyn-based graphic artist, daydreamer, pseudo-scientist, wanna-be astronaut and untrained intellectual who tends to find inspiration in pretty much anything… especially music, the universe, the human condition and natural phenomena.

I think I like his work so much because I feel much the same way about my life and work. I am inspired by just about everything at some point so much so that I always seem to move perpetually between obsessions. These little passions always find their way into my work. I sense the same thing happening in Ryan’s work and I feel an affinity. Maybe it’s just me. Of course I tend to go overboard breaking out of restraint and going a little mad. Ryan’s work has a much softer touch and that makes me like it even more because as I sometimes move too much towards the dark his work could mostly be described as dreamy and light.

He also sells prints, all of which I can’t imagine looking bad on any wall, and if you think it might help you absorb some of his dreamy mojo, you can always rest on one of his sleepy head pillows. He is currently available for commission projects so if you are in the market for a ride on his crystal ship, drop him a line.
