This has been online for 9 months already but is still worth sharing for the accolades it garnered alone. ‘The Light of Life’ was directed by Daihei Shibata with piano by Naomi Yaguchi and music by Debussy featuring the song “Clair de Lune”. Beautiful video.

‘Photocopy Romance’ is the latest music video put together by Neverhide Films. It’s a great video and serves as a very ingenuitive piece of stop motion animation. Neverhide took care to thoroughly document the experience and you can see some great ‘making of’ images in their Flickr-folio.

Motion/Direction agency Not to Scale has relaunched their website and it’s an excellent example of how to keep a site simple but make it interesting via color and placement. It does a great job at showcasing the work of their top directors and it makes sorting through the content fun.

Mr. Harrison (if you please) is a graduate from Central St. Martins and has been on a streak directing some highly unusual but brilliant music videos. The most recent of which is the above video for Asprins single ‘Cutter’. It’s not quite like anything I have seen lately. Mr. Harrison is one to keep an eye on.

Noah Conopask is currently a director in Shilo’s NY office and has worked for Digital Kitchen in the past. He has earned an Emmy nomination for past directorial work. Aside from being an accomplished commercial director he is also a photographer with an amazing eye for composition. In short, he is a multifaceted talent with an amazing portfolio of work.

“In the future, an Ex-Soldier is placed in virtual exercises to cure his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In the simulations, he sees glimpses of a mysterious girl, presumably someone from his past. When a Stranger appears in his facility offering answers, the Soldier finds himself once again asked to kill, this time for her…”

This is a surprising short that is rich in plot and character development. It’s rare you see something of this length put online and it’s equally surprising to see such a strong cast supporting a project like this. It’s beautifully shot and well directed by Christian Swegal.

Spike Jonze executive produced this wonderful video for Lakai that was directed by Ty Evans. Needless to say some talented people were involved in the process. “Steve Berra (The Berrics) joins Mexican skaters Jesus Gonzalez, Eder Martinez, Mario Saenz, Angel Santiago and American Luis Tolentino for this Burn Ignite film, shot on location in Mexico City.

This film was created alongside two short-form documentaries, one featuring Jess Kimura and the all girl hardcore snowboarding film collective Peep Show, the other is a portrait that celebrates the electric lyrics and gritty beat artistry of rapper/poet Julius Wright, aka Lyrical God.”

And skate culture continues to inspire the production of good art.

Graphic Havoc or GHAVA for short has stayed busy and have lately worked on campaigns for both AOL and Mtv. They are a staple on the inspiration list for a lot of graphic designers but they have turned much more strongly toward direction as of late. I particularly enjoyed some of their recent retro Napoleon Dynamite-inspired T.V. spots.
