Tom Hingston Studio consistently cranks out exceptional work and his recent portfolio update is no exception. There are some brilliantly produced projects represented for some amazing clients.

If you have a pulse and you’ve kept your ear to the ground creatively over the past few years I am sure you may have picked up on the influence of ‘hipster’ culture on both graphic design and advertising. And like it is with every trend after a period of time there will always be a backlash. And lately the hipster influence has definitely had it’s neck laid over the chopping block. I recently stumbled upon a fun little site called Hipster Branding that ‘rebrands’ well known companies with a little ‘hipster’ pastiche and it’s pretty dead on. Is it good you might ask? Well it’s hip.

Estudio Vixen is the design studio of Alba Plaza based in the amazing city of Barcelona (I am dying to get back there soon). He’s involved in several interesting projects and has the simple but slick presentation of his work dialed in tight.

Creative Mornings Portland is a very well executed ongoing video series featuring some excellent interviews and insight into some rare creative talents. This episode features none other than the working class hero designer Aaron Draplin. Enjoy.

I’ve been a fan of Hey Studio since I first laid eyes on their work. I usually am not a big fan of email newsletters, probably because so many are sent to me but I always look forward to theirs. They recently updated their website and for the fans of minimal and classic graphic design with just a hint of colorful latin flair it does not disappoint.

There is some new work up since I last dropped in at Atelier Olschinsky and it is of course interesting, unique and purely delicious to the eyes.

Ill Studio has launched a new and in many ways even more strange and eccentric portfolio of work. They have noted that they’d like to make a bit of a departure from their older works and move toward the new direction they have taken.

Psychedelic collage artist and graphic designer Tom Sewell has updated with a few new and extremely trippy projects since I last checked in. He also has some of his work available as prints here if you’d like to have a little something to hang on your wall and scare your friends with (shrooms not included).

Somerville, Massachusetts based studio Oat Creative is doing some air tight branding work with an old school eastern seaboard flair. Think yachts, fishing, good beer and finely-tuned typography and you should start to find the groove.

Chris Burnett is a graphic designer from Los Angeles. He is currently a BFA3 design student at California Institute of the Arts.”

Chris sent me this really cool mailer a month or 2 back and I was really impressed by how considered the final print piece was. He’s got a real flair for typography or ‘type as image’ as I like to call it and he’s going to be a wanted man the minute he sets foot outside the Cal Arts campus. I’d keep an eye on him if I were you.

Studio Constantine (The Manual Electric) isn’t the name of some awesome band/album, it’s the name of an extremely talented studio responsible for some inspiring print work.

The multi-disciplinary studio C100 Purple Haze (yes you read that correctly) has kept busy and sent a note about a recent update to their website that includes a flurry of new projects. It’s an interesting body of work that stretches from more fashion-orientated editorial work all the way through snow board graphics.

Gareth O’Brien is a healthy part of the tasty butter spread over the bread of one of my favorite studios, Buck. A quick glance not just at his work but the presentation of his work will be enough to start the wheels turning as to why he’s an asset to Buck.

Character is a San Francisco-based, independent creative agency with a passion for launching, rejuvenating and propelling brands. Our goal is to create lasting and meaningful relationships between our client’s brand and their audience through smart thinking and intelligent design.”

I was informed that Character likes to ‘fly under the radar’ but that might be hard to do with the portfolio they are developing. It’s worth talking about as there is some strong project work represented under the Character brand.

Andrei Ograda is a freelance graphic artist/designer from Bucharest, Romania who is currently “trapped” in Spain where he claims it has become near impossible to find work. He’s ready to travel and open to work anywhere in Europe or maybe even the U.S. He’s got some very unique work in his portfolio which is why I am mentioning it here. So hook the guy up already.
