Juliane Eirich was born in Munich, Germany in 1979. After some internships in Miami she went on to study at the Academy of Photographic design in Munich. Upon graduating she did a stint in New York then on to Honolulu. She now lives in Seoul, South Korea due to a scholarship of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).
She is an astute observer of humanity’s impact on our planet. Her images are quiet and subtle highlighting contemplative barren landscapes.
Photographer Theo Jemison sent me an email today to show me his work. He is a very accomplished photographer who currently calls Los Angeles home. He has some beautiful and very human work in his portfolio. He has photographed some of my favorite musicians and has managed to capture a very raw sense of their personality in his images.
Utterly bizarre but totally absorbing photography and fashion-inspired projects by Bart Hess. His website isn’t exactly the most intuitive site I have visited but if you can mine out all of the content, there is some really interesting imagery to be found.
Wayne Levin is a Photographer her captures amazingly beautiful and completely original black and white photographs underwater. I was really struck by his work. It’s gorgeous.
Here is all you need to know about the very gifted photographer Branislav Kropilak copied from the ‘about‘ section of his website:
“Born in Slovakia, Branislav spent most of his childhood in Belgium, travelling a lot
around the world with his parents from an early age. He graduated at the renowned
Private Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and later on completed studies at the
Institute of Digital Photography in Prague. He spent several years working for the
leading creative agencies such as BBDO, McCann-Erickson or Saatchi & Saatchi.
The main theme of his work is investigating the way in which modern technology
has shaped the human environment and our lives. He is inspired by industrial design,
architecture and urbanism. It has been said that his work betrays his roots as an
advertising professional; the images produced being cool, stark and unforgiving. The
utopian bent of his work with its appreciation of geometry and perspective have
already earned him a solid base of collectors and praise from critics worldwide.”
The image above is from a series of plane landing shot with a long exposure. They are really stunning and a testament to the fact that you don’t always need Photoshop to create and capture an extraordinary image.
Beautiful images of beautiful people doing beautiful things in the portfolio of London-based Photographer and image maker Klas Strom. It’s refreshing to see a ‘personal’ section on his site as well where you can peruse some photographs taken during downtime that really showcase his eye for composition outside the fashion world.
Strom is represent by Zara Grey if you are interested in commissioning his services.
There is really nothing I can tell you as far as the details go regarding PHOKS, other than whoever they are, they are French and I love the art direction of some of their photography work. It pushes that hyper-reality threshold to where it almost becomes cartoon-like.
My friend Lynnette Astaire just updated her website with a grip of new work. She has serious skills when it comes to photography, and she always manages to come up with unique visual narratives.
I wrote about the exploits of Photographer duo Zoren Gold and Minori on my last blog but they have since updated their their site for their studio MI-ZO with loads of stunning new material. Their approach is more about capturing the freedom found within dreams and alternative reality than just framing a moment of physical reality. This philosophy opens the door for how they allow other mediums to influence their imagery as well and you will see this in their work. Since beginning their collaboration in 2000, they have exhibited throughout Europe and Japan. It is worth spending some time digging through their portfolio because it is treasure chest full of gems.
There is some stunning, glamorous yet subtly contemplative imagery in the folio of Los Angeles based Photographer Alex Prager. Not that it matters to her photography but she is a beautiful person herself. She has exhibited between Europe and the states since 2001 and won the esteemed London Photographic Award in 2006. It’s easy to see why. Beautiful work.
If you have been curious who is behind those disturbing images of women with plastic molded anatomical structures realistically composited over their bodies that keep appearing on FFFFound, then be curious no more. They are the work of Dutch photographer Koen Hauser. There is little information to be gathered about him at his website other than the fact that he is extremely well studied and has exhibited all over Europe. His work has the kind of surreal sticking power that immediately locks itself into your psyche and only resurfaces in those fleeting moments just before sleep. His imagery possesses a subtle humanity that burrows it’s way into the subconscious where it comes disquietingly to rest.
“Women Are Heroes” is the project of MSF and JR, two artivists traveling the globe to reveal the importance of the role of women in their communities. They have made way to some of the most distraught places in Africa. Sierra Leone, Liberia, Southern Sudan and Kenya are on that list. From what I can tell JR has been taking some really amazing photos of these women’s facial expressions and wheat pasting them up all around their communities to share their stories and uplift the local people. As of March 8th, an exhibition showcasing eight of these women were put up in giant scale all over Brussels. It’s a pretty amazing project if you ask me. Helping create awareness through the arts has always been a great way to spread information and change minds. Now if a whole lot more humans can look at things like this with more serious scrutiny, the world just might take a turn for the better.
Although the images are no doubt digitally enhanced, Ryther has a keen eye for composition and there is something interesting about the stark nature of his images as well. There isn’t much you can learn about him or her from their website but when you are talking photography, I think it’s best to just let the images do the talking.
Jónas Valtýsson is a young Graphic Designer and Photographer about to graduate from the Icelandic academy of the arts in Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavík. Although he may be young, his work shows a wisdom beyond his age. There is some interesting work in his design portfolio but the real gem lies in his work in photography. His stark, high-contrast imagery pulls you in and forces you to reconcile with haunting imagery. The backdrop of Iceland appears to be a perfect setting for his photos as well and goes miles in making the view feel as isolated as many of the subjects of his photographs. If you want to have a look at his work you can browse his website, or visit his Flickr page and like so many of us out there these days, he does have blog as well.
From what I can tell from his website Eugenio Recuenco is a Spanish Photographer with an amazing vision and an eye for breathtaking detail. His broadcast work is stunning and his unique sensibility makes him a prime candidate for high-octane agency broadcast work. I would love to throw a spot at him. Spend some time sifting through his work because you will be rewarded by the breadth of his amazing talent.
05/14 EDWARDS BACKS OBAMA A pleasant surprise for the Obama campaign today came in the shape of an endorsement from John Edwards. Do I smell a new VP on the Obama ticket?
05/12 EARTHQUAKE KILLS 9000 A terrible earthquake measuring 7.9 on the richter scale rocked Chengdu, China yesterday. Authorities are claiming it is the worst in decades and the death toll may now be close to 9000.
05/10 100,000 DEAD I am sure by now you have heard all about this but the scale of human tragedy is just shattering. As many as 100,000 may now be dead in the wake of the Myanmar cyclone. Please Myanmar, let foreign aid workers help you.
05/06 SDSU DRUG BUST Nearly 100 people, most of them students at San Diego State University have been arrested as part of a drug investigation. I am sure there will be plenty of room for them in the California Penal System. I think they are running short on inmates the last time I checked.
05/02 HEPARIN TAMPERING This case of what is now being called ‘deliberate’ tampering with the drug Heparin in order to substitute a cheap alternative and save money is deplorable. We have to hold the FDA to higher standards.
