This is very well shot.
“‘When what you see is not what you get’
The 2D version of the 3D short film by Alexei Popogrebsky.
We used the opportunity to test some concepts in 3D and see how it would translate to 2D, and vice versa. Originally part of the Experiment 5ive omnibus – 5gum.ru . (Hence the black envelope with the picture inside, which had to be the common element of all 5 films)
Watch the 3D Anaglyph version here vimeo.com/28852133 (you would need those cardboard red-cyan glasses for that)
Featuring Grigory Dobrygin and Ina-Maria Jaich
Photography by Peter Steuger; Production design by Erwin Prib; Art Direction and SFX by Niels Müller; Costume Design by Petra Wellenstein; Music by Dmitry Katkhanov; Stereography by Sarah Rotter; Shot on Arri Alexas and Stereotec 3D rig; Postproduction by Pictorion das werk; Produced by METRAFILMS
‘Bonne Annee’ written and performed by Marie-Aude Robin and Dmitry Katkhanov”

“Craig Redman and Karl Maier live on opposite sides of the world but collaborate daily to create bold work that is filled with simple messages executed in a thoughtful and often humorous way. They specialize in illustration, installation, typography, as well as character, editorial and pattern design.
Craig & Karl have exhibited across the world, most notably at the Musée de la Publicité, Louvre. They have worked on projects for clients like LVMH, Nike, Apple, Vogue, Microsoft, Converse, MTV and The New York Times.”
It’s probably best to keep an eye on this dynamic duo because even before joining forces they were attracting a lot of attention. And from the looks of their portfolio they are going to be attracting a whole lot more.

Pitch Black’s showreel for 2011 is pretty nasty. And by nasty we mean rad. And by rad we mean dope. And by…well you get the picture now just watch the reel.

Artist Jeremy Fish is still doing his thing and has updated lately with some excellent work. His hand is so airtight now it almost looks like vector art. He keeps honing his craft though and getting better at what he does and there are some wonderful works in his portfolio.

Designer/illustrator Ben Thomas has a very interesting style complimented by the use of 3D. He is one of the few designers using these elements that is regularly releasing prints. It’s all an extremely bright and surreal experience looking through his work but we dig it. He mentioned in an email to us the possibility of a collaboration and we are all ears to that idea.

“Follow Marie’s adventures and misfortunes through mountains and seas in her no-go quest to become the super powerful La Fabuleuse, the chick illustrator capable of conquering the entire universe in a blink.
Illustrations, Screenprints, Comics and Stupidity.”
I think ‘stupidity’ might be a little strong but it’s used in the spirit of ‘fun’ and ‘fun’ is definitely the right word to describe Marie’s work.

Painter Joe Forkan has created an entire series based off of the film The Big Lebowski. Awesome you say? Why yes but before you accept it at face value as a fan of one of the strangest and most wonderful films of all time, Forkan is a serious painter who has done his homework and in many ways paints in the style of the old masters. He was drawn to the symbolism and attention the Coen brothers brought to the movie and has attempted to translate that very energy into his paintings.

They are based in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa.
After spending over 4 years with local illustration pioneers Am I Collective, Miné and Clinton decided to team up and form Studio Muti. Together they combine their creative talents to provide illustration, typography and design both locally and abroad.”
Muti have a broad and beautiful portfolio that signals some serious talent in both illustration and design.

What I dig about Scott Balmer’s illustrations is that they somehow manage to be current while invoking references to great illustrators from the 60′s and 70′s He’s putting Illustrator to good use.

Chuck AKA No Pattern has once again updated his portfolio with several new projects for the year of our Lord 2011. He is holding hard and fast to the glow thing too and why not? He pretty much owns that space now and clients recognize his work.

Everyone’s old art pal has taken to the streets, commenced sticking his finger in the pot and has begun stirring again. As always with Banksy’s work, expect moments of simple brilliance.

Jay Shaw calls himself ‘Iron Jaiden’ and has gathered quite a following on hardcore print and poster websites like Expresso Beans and OMG Posters (I know because I am one of the nerds who constantly frequents those websites and collects posters). You can see his excellent work at Kingdom of Nonsense. I was totally excited to recently discover that Jay is actually a resident of Denver, Colorado and his studio is just downtown. That excitement was compounded when I also discovered that he is hosting a silkscreen poster exhibition tomorrow night as a tribute to the amazing writer/director Sydney Lumet. The show was expertly curated by Jay himself and features some fantastic posters by artists like Kevin Ang and James Rheem Davis. You can see most of the posters in the show here at OMG posters. This is going to be a great event and it’s a little something new for the art scene here in Denver. So don’t miss out tomorrow night. I am planning on being there myself.
Here are the details:
Laundry on Lawrence
2701 Lawrence
Denver, Co
Doors open at 7. Be there or be square or at least miss out on that poster you are coveting.
Leftover posters will be sold at Jay’s online storefront the following day.

IdN Video v18n4 OPENING TITLE from NERDO on Vimeo.
Here’s what the Italian Motion Design studio Nerdo had to say about their recent project for IDN that involved a pretty eye-catching mashup of live action and 3D:
“One of the world’s most important design magazine gave us the opportunity to create the dvd opening titles for the outcoming issue ‘IdN Video v18n4′.
We had total freedom to give birth to a video without any restrictions, experimenting with techniques that we never used before.
It was a huge effort in a short time but we had a lot of fun and we learned so much.”

There is some seriously radical chrome action happening in the portfolio of Etienne Chaize. Lots of shiny, colorful and deliciously vector typography is on display and it’s a hell of a lot of fun to look at.
