Spec album covers created for the 2 song 7 inch EP release of the band Passion Pit. They chose one of the designs but made a few changes. I like the original artwork better and that is what you see here. The band is very good and I am anxiously awaiting their full album release.

I wanted to merge both my love for transcendental metaphysics with my love for typography. Can that be done? The process of repetition in the creation of the work and the chanting of ‘I am’ was introspective and integral to the idea of the poster. The idea was to create something that was at once poetic, but also a nod to the history of design and typography. I was also attempting to convey this in the spectrum of color much like a person whose moods and life can transition through a spectrum.

I have wanted to do a poster using my birth date for a while. I have always felt 1976 was an interesting year, being the centennial year for the U.S. and also the year of the dragon. I utilized the Changethethought logo to create a 70’s inspired pattern and then decided to roughen the poster to add wear and tear giving it a more vintage look. The idea for the poster was inspired by old Penguin book covers and the covers of Latvian magazine Jauna Gaita.
These posters will most likely be silkscreened. The chocolate poster will be screened on a natural tone stock while the lime colored poster will be screened on heavy white stock. They will most likely be available late summer 2008. The posters were created as a simple iconographic, timeless, typographical statement of the ‘Changethethought’ message.
I believe in art and I believe in the act of creation. I think creativity is counter to destruction.
A little 80’s skate, new wave, Art Chantry inspired number created to remind people that it’s o.k. to criticize, so long as you make sure you get out there and create something too.
I read in a book about Metaphysics that our culture of ’survival of the fittest’ is strangling the progress of the United States both internally and diplomatically in our relationships with other countries. We seem to want to refuse the glaring fact that if we do not unite in a common goal to make the world better together we will fail as a group of selfish disparate individuals. The poster ‘We Not Me’ is a small psychological creative jab at this paradigm.
‘God is a verb’ was a contextual quote pulled from the late great Buckminster Fuller. It subtly implies that God is energy, never static, always creating and moving. It also implies that in order to be like God, you should get off your ass, get out there and try to make a difference by taking action.
This is a little personal homage to my love of the marriage of graphic design and the printing process. An ode to CMYK and all it has done for me. The poster is entirely vector and based from an original sketch. Poster set for sale late summer 2008.

Quit smoking pack created for the College-age anti-smoking campaign, Quit Doing It, sponsored by the Colorado Department of Health. The kit was awarded a gold at the 2007 Denver Art Director’s Guild Club annual show.

Graphics created for the Own Your C quit journal that was included in an anti-smoking kit distributed to Colorado high schools as a part of the Colorado Department of Health’s Own Your C campaign. The journal won several awards and was included in the 2007 regional design annual edition of Print Magazine. All I can take credit for is the cover and a few pages on the inside. The entire project was done by the young and amazingly talented Art Director, Matthew Chiabotti. Creative Direction from Norm Shearer.
