As a new parent, all kinds of thing affect me emotionally in ways they didn’t before the birth of my son. This T.V. spot for Mtv resonated with the protective parent in me that is always trying to keep my little boy out of harms way.

Must Warn Others is a new local Colorado production, direction and design shop that popped up on my radar while I was out of town and our website was down and dragged through the mud (long story to come soon). I have to be honest about almost being afraid to post their work since they are some pretty heavy competition for a shop like ours but the more the merrier here in Colorado. The market needs it bad around here and a studio of this caliber is just what the doctor ordered. So I have to ask and may as well do it in this post, do you guys want to work together on something because we think you kick ass.
Alright, I am totally going to have to see this and you should too if you have ever worked anywhere near, in or around advertising which should pretty much encompass all of us in the creative industry, at least those of us who have had to work on a commercial project, so like I was sayin’ pretty much all of us. Ironically actually, I think Morgan Spurlock himself was once a graphic designer. So go figure.
London based Stamp Films makes films for commercials and music. What’s notable about this? Well…art direction, cinematography and a damn-good-looking finished product that is attracting attention from clients across the globe.
Minneapolis studio Mono has updated with a simple new website that features some downright sophisticated and amazing work for a remarkable roster of clients. They are on top of where advertising and design is today and should be closely watched.
Dixon Baxi is a studio that really inspires us at Changethethought. They are uncompromising in their quest to do the best work possible for their clients and impact the bottom line all while maintaining the integrity of their aesthetic. They have recently updated their site with new and as always inspiring projects.
Here is a quote from a Dixon Baxi client that is proof of the pudding:
“DixonBaxi helped MTV2 find its balls again. They helped us to refine the MTV2 brand positioning, to fuse the channel with attitude and deliver a radical on-air look that was visually striking. And our audience loved it. Our ratings increased immediately and it is without doubt the freshest looking channel in the music section of the EPG.”

Onesize has updated with a new reel that is mind-numbingly awesome and balls-to-the-wall inspiring. We are hoping to one day be doing and accomplishing a similar aesthetic but remain enormously moved by their work.
PSYOP don’t stop. They are still killing it after all these years with work like this spot for JP Morgan Chase for McGarryBowen. There is some hellaciouslly difficult-to-produce 3D going on in this spot and it all works beautifully.

Jessica Hische has assembled a nice little chart to help you answer the age old question ‘Should I Work For Free?‘ Most of the time, I would say no but there are exceptions to every rule and good causes that can always use and extra hand.
The long-standing pillar of design, branding and advertising perfection that is Pentagram have updated with a new website which is neither a day late nor a dollar short of precisely what an online portfolio in our common year of 2011 should be. What I mean to punctuate is that here we have no frills and all good work. It’s easy to sort through and puts the raw creative chops squarely on the slab for you to cook up in your now inspired brain as to how you and your agency or studio could ascertain the level of awe that Pentagram has achieved and will be remembered for. The word ‘icon’ can be applied in this rare situation since they have carved out a corner in a fleeting and nearly impossible to define industry. Many will clamor but few will reach so eloquently over such a span of time.
The American Cancer Society has long been a generous contributor to the perpetuation of the birthday celebration. Working with The Martin Agency they recently created MoreBirthdays.com which features shareable interactive content, art, music and much more to help fight cancer and create more birthdays. In the gallery section of the website visitors can purchase prints that benefit the American Cancer Society from artists like Ilovedust and Jon Burgerman. They can also send personalized happy birthday videos and telephone messages from celebrities and musicians like Usher and Jack Black. Users can create interactive birthday cards for friends and loved ones using video, photos and written messages. The interactive cards can also use Facebook Connect to tag content that is added to the cards.
It’s a wonderful campaign and we want to apologize for covering it so late. Our friends at The Martin Agency were kind enough to send us a beautiful poster from Ilovedust a month ago that is now hanging proudly in our studio. We want to thank them for their generosity and their involvement in a campaign genuinely aimed at doing good.
Director/photographer Christopher Hewitt has produced some beautiful work this year including the ‘Canon Bring Color to Life’ photos and T.V. spot that were widely circulated across the creative blogosphere a few months back. He has relaunched his site and it is now populated with a few new notable projects including the spot for Nike above.
Design consultancy Antrepo recently experimented with a project that tested the effect of minimizing the graphics utilized on popular products in a market crowded with visual clutter. The end result is an interesting foray into reinterpreting popular products that maintain their brand essence while doing away with all of the unnecessary pomp that marketers feel they need for their item to stand out off the shelf. You can see the resultant product studies at Antrepo’s blog but also at their Flickr site as well.
On a personal sidenote, I’d eat the buttery, sugary chocolatey goodness that is Nutella out of a paint can with the word ‘Nutella’ written on the outside in Sharpie. Just sayin’.
“AKQA San Francisco asked PostPanic to help create a unique 10th anniversary thank you film to more than 1 million Google AdWords clients worldwide. The agency’s idea was to individually address each of the clients by incorporating their company name in the film visuals. PostPanic took on the challenge of creating the main film which would then be handed over complete to Google’s customization agency for clients’ name integration. Director Mischa Rozema developed AKQA’s script to include a fictitious Google research department trying out ambitious experiments to feature each advertiser. A combination of live action and vfx, the footage was filmed by PostPanic in around Google HDQ in California, before being brought back for post in Amsterdam.”

Classic design powerhouse Sea has updated with a new website and packed it with new projects. It’s also easier to view the work on their new site as it has now been cross referenced by ‘sector’. There is load of inspiration waiting to be discovered as Sea remains one of the finer design agencies in business today.
Wow, photographer Chris Sisarich snaps some amazing images from places around the world most of us will never have the chance to see and sometimes he does it in the name of advertising. Not a bad gig but it’s all due to his genuine talent.
London creative studio and workshop Village Green has made some beautiful things and just updated their website with some recent examples of their creations. They’ve worked for some big clients like Nike, Mtv and Becks.
04/12 ZIMMERMAN FACES MURDER In a case we’ve been following closely there is finally what we think is some good news to report. George ZImmerman, the man accused of killing the innocent teenager Trayvon Martin has been taken into custody and charged with second degree murder. At last there is some justice.
12/16 HITCHENS DIES Outspoken author and pundit Christopher Hitchens passed away yesterday at the age of 62 after succombing to a long battle with cancer. His honest and bravado opinion that rarely favored one side versus the other but was instead often a cry for ‘reason’ will be missed.
11/23 BURZYNKSI CLINIC Is there an alternative, non-toxic treatment for cancer? Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski seems to think so and has been experiencing higher rate of success than the current accepted practice of treating cancer.
