Kiosk is a multi-disciplinary design studio founded by former Designers Republic senior designer, David Bailey. Kiosk is based in TDR’s old haunt Sheffield, England. As to be expected they have some excellent work in their portfolio for some big brands and the site was coded by Suprb (who updated his site with the same UI).
Human has relaunched with an exceptional body of work exhibited through an equally exceptional website.
“Established in 2007, Humanstudio (a.k.a Human) is a creative agency with global credentials and substantial collective experience, consisting of a core studio team and an extended network of talent.
Founder Nick Bax was previously a director of The Designers Republic (TDR), exhibiting at numerous venues across the world including Museum of Contemporary Art (Barcelona), Passage de Retz (Paris), Barbican Centre (London), Electraglide Festival (Tokyo), and Artists Space (New York).
Nick is a visiting lecturer in design & visual communication and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).”
Some nice work in the portfolio of one-time TDR employee Ash Spurr. Throw the guy a freelance bone, he has some great work in his book.
I just read at FFF that The Designers Republic closed it’s doors this week on Tuesday after 23 years in the design business. I was really sad to hear it. TDR was one of the first shops I discovered when I was still very young, around 19 or so, during college and said to myself, ‘I want to do that’.
I think they were a huge influence on a lot of us in the late 90’s, and I know many of us would not have been spurred on to become graphic designers had it not been for their guiding inspiration.
Needless, to say times are tough right now, and it has been sad to see not just TDR, but a lot of great places closing their doors. We will miss you TDR, and thank you for being such a lasting source of inspiration and creating such beautiful design work. You will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
One of my all time favorite design studios, The Designers Republic, has offered a little flashing potential forecast of what could be a site update soon. Let’s hope so. It has been a very very very long time coming and I think all of us design junkies are have grown pretty weary of their current site. I have been a fan of their work going all the way back to college and I just cannot wait to see new work from them. I am always inspired by their work. Let’s hope a full update is coming soon.
Interesting work from Si Billam, a former senior designer at one of my all time favorite shops, The Designers Republic.
The talented designer behind Yolo has updated his website with more interesting graphic design work.
A little more about Yolo:
“Yolo is the graphic design studio of Martin Fewell based in Manchester UK.
Graduating in 2000 from The University of Salford with BA(Hons) Graphic Design First Class Honours Martin began his career in London at Carlton TV working on interactive Televison projects.
From there Martin moved to design / production company Fold 7 where he spent 3 years working on
a wide range of projects from retail, music and work for television.
Next was a brief spell at design company Tonic before he returned to the north to work for The Designers Republic for 2 and a half years. There he worked on a range of projects including work for Coca-Cola, MTV, NIN and Gatecrasher.
Martin is also a part time Lecturer at The University of Salford and Chelsea School of Art and Design.”
