The bright and shiny minds behind Universal Everything have created a new ident campaign for the relaunch of AOL. The videos were meant for content to be broadcast through web video, mobile, digital campaigns and outdoor LED displays. When it comes to video, it is all about providing content these days. Is this approach a foreshadowing of what will happen to the production of television commercials in the future? Regardless, it’s gorgeous visual art once again from Universal Everything.

I don’t know. I like the animations.. they’re very interesting and engaging. But the type is such an afterthought. I kind of want that (ick) new logo to get out of the way so I can see the cool stuff behind it. Like the entire aol rebrand it feels pretty off point.

I think it is more the concept that is lacking. It’s really just some nice eye candy to ‘announce’ their relaunch and reengage with the public. Universal Everything is wonderful and the work they do is great but all of these would be a lot more meaningful if they were anchored by a concept. They really just amount to video content for the general purpose of promotion.
