Quit Doing It website co-concepted by myself and my writing partner Jim Morrisey at Cactus. I Art Directed the site while the design, development, 3d, sound engineering and motion was done by Agency Net. The site was produced to promote the college anti-smoking campaign for the Colorado Department of Health. The site has won several awards and has been a topic of many a conversation. We wanted to produce something highly entertaining directed specifically at the college-aged crowd. We felt giving the somewhat dreary information an educational, futuristic and entertaining twist would be more age-appropriate for the demographic. We also hoped it would encourage users to re-examine and discover information they may have already heard about in a new way. Radio spots originally promoted the lab and the next step was fleshing out the site. A 14 hour day and a cast of one principal and several extras was what it took to get the live action. Cutting edge actionscript and Maya 3d were also used to produce the site. I think everyone’s best efforts are apparent. Creative Direction from Norm Shearer.
I provided the concept, Art Direction and overall design of Cactus’s website. I designed the site and determined the usability features of the site. An online functional tabbing system was always an internet nerd dream I had and it was great to see it become a reality. Agency Net actionscripted and developed the site. I think they soiled their shorts when they saw my initial designs, but the site came out fantastic. The site has won numerous awards, and has been both lauded and reviled by the design and advertising community. I expected such a reaction, but I wanted the site to be very different and stand as a testament to how Flash can be used to organize information in an entirely original and intuitive way. It’s one of those sites that if you get it, you get it and if you don’t, you don’t and exactly the same could be said about Cactus. Creative Direction from Norm Shearer.
Own Your C was far and away the most important website I have been a part of. I helped originate the concept for the site. The original idea was to create an analog world that lived in a digital space. We wanted it to be the biggest weirdest most engaging website anyone had seen in a long time. It garnished a massive volume of traffic and has received over twenty awards world wide, making the long list for the Canne Film Festival and receiving Best in Show for interactive at South By Southwest. I was the Art Director on the project and worked with writers Jim Morrisey, Brian Watson, Creative Director Norm Shearer, Cactus Founder Joe Conrad and Account Manager John McKracken to help flesh out the original idea for the site. The site was designed, coded and engineered by Agency Net. Agency Net did an absolutely spectacular job on the site and really deserved all the accolades they received. It was a great project to be a part of and really came to embody the best of everyone involved in the project. It also went miles for the Colorado Department of Health in legitimizing there campaign and spreading the word from local to global.
I designed and coded the W. Kent Jessee site while under the emply of Xylem Interactive. I worked on projects ranging from Red Robin, Chipotle, Jimmy Johns to Gorilla Glue while working for Xylem. All of the sites we worked on received numerous awards. W. Kent Jessee was also featured on Design Interact from Communication Arts. The site was groundbreaking for the risk management business market and is still cutting edge almost 4 years later.
